Welcome

What is the Blue Mountains Home Education Network?

We are a diverse network of home educating families living across the beautiful Blue Mountains of NSW. The Blue Mountains Home Education Network initiative is a collaborative and evolving project and has been created with the aim of facilitating communication and building connections between home educators in the Blue Mountains region. We hope that the BM-HEN will allow home educators in the Blue Mountains to connect with one another, to offer opportunities for collaboration between groups and individuals, and to provide access to resources, information and support to all home educating families.

NEW! We’ve recently set up a discussion group for home educating families in the mountains where you can ask questions, offer and receive support and advice, share resources and information or just connect with other home educating families. Join our BMHEN yahoo group here: http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/bmhen/

Participating local groups and support people

We are in the process of collating a list of local groups and individuals in the mountains that are available to offer support and social opportunities for home educating families. You can find more information in the ‘Local Groups’ section of the site. The Blue Mountains Home Education Network is always looking to expand it’s network of contacts. If you are part of a group or know of one not listed here already but wish to be – please contact us info@bmhen.org.

What’s on? Classes, courses, excursions and events

Local events can be viewed by clicking on the Events link. There is the option of registering to have you notified by email of any new events. We encourage the region’s home educators to submit event details for display on this website. You can submit events here.

Annual NOT! back to school picnic 2011 – a great day!

On the 1st of February 2011, a beautiful summer’s day, families from across the mountains and from as far as Lithgow and Penrith, gathered to celebrate Home Education and to mark the beginning of another home school year. The famous BMHEN bunting went up around the trees, the BMHEN banner adorned one family’s people mover – alerting other home schoolers and passers by to our gathering (wish we had a photo of that!), the sun was shining, there was a gentle breeze blowing off the lake, kids paddled in the shallows and parents connected in the shade. Thanks to all who came and made the day such a success. Here is a snapshot!

Annual NOT! back to school picnic! – You’re invited!

It’s back by popular demand! Your opportunity to reconnect with the home education communities of the Blue Mountains and surrounds. Perhaps it is your opportunity to touch base and meet some local home educating families for the first time. Perhaps you are thinking about home schooling and just want to drop in to check if home schoolers really do have two heads … or not. Whatever your reason… you are welcome! We promise there will be lots of adults to chat to and lots of kids to hang out with. There will also be people representing various groups in and around the mountains ready and willing to fill you in on what they are planning for this year – should you ask. So, bring a picnic, a rug, sun protection and … a change of clothes for your kids?…. (well… we are meeting at the lake!) and come and celebrate the JOY! of NOT! going back to school!

Tuesday February 1st from 10:30am @ Wentworth Falls Lake
