Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct for Attendance at BMHEN Events

1. Preamble

1.1 The Blue Mountains Home Education Network is a support group for home educators living in the greater Blue Mountains area.
1.2 . The group organizes both social events and educational classes and workshops at the Mid Mountains Community Centre, Lawson and other venues. The provision of these workshops is to allow access to presentations that might otherwise be out of the reach of smaller support groups and families across a broad range of learning areas, for a minimal cost and at a local venue.
1.3 This Code of Conduct (“the Code”) has been prepared for the guidance of persons attending a BMHEN event. It has been developed through feedback received from event presenters, group members and organisers. The Code assumes that those who apply to attend a BMHEN event have read and understood the conditions of attendance as set out in the event notification; and
1.4 Parents/caregivers/persons over 16 yrs attending a BMHEN event must sign the
attendance register, thereby acknowledging that they have understood and will abide by the Code.

2. General Responsibility At BMHEN Events

BMHEN is committed to providing accessible, quality education experiences to all homeschooling families. All events are coordinated by volunteers. For everyone to get the most out of their experience we appreciate your cooperation on the following matters:
2.1 Please do your best to arrive on time. Latecomers can sometimes inadvertently disrupt a class the presenter has done their utmost to settle well;
2.2 Take note of any requests made by volunteers or presenters, given their responsibility to try to ensure a safe and satisfying workshop experience for all participants;
2.3 Be mindful of the noise levels in and around the hall during a presentation. The acoustics in the hall can make it very difficult to be heard over even minimal background noise. Please turn mobile phones off or on to ‘silent’ mode and feel free to make use of the area outside the hall for younger children who may need some time outside to be happy about staying for the duration of the event;
2.4 Inform a BMHEN volunteer if you are aware of any injury to persons or damage to the property or its facilities that has occurred during the event; and
2.5 Please lend a hand with packing and cleaning up so as to leave the venue in good condition.

3. Booking/Cancellation Procedures
3.1 All events must be booked in advance and by the booking deadline as stated on promotional material unless specifically stated otherwise or previously arranged for each specific event with the event organiser.
3.2 A place in a workshop or at an event is secured only when payment has been received. If payment is not received by the booking deadline the place may be given to the Waiting List.
3.3 In making a booking you are making a commitment to
a) attend the workshop for it’s full duration
b) undertake any prerequisite activities as requested
c) arrive on time for the workshop. (Participants who arrive late for the workshop may be refused entry by the presenter.)
d) participate in activities taking place as part of the workshop
3.4 Payments are non refundable as the group’s booking of the venue and tutor remain effective. If you cannot attend on the day you can give your place to someone else after first securing the agreement of the organiser/tutor.
3.5 In the case where the event is cancelled by the organiser all payments made are fully reimbursed.
3.6 Any booking fees remaining unpaid may result in exclusion from subsequent BMHEN events.

4. Disclaimers
4.1 BMHEN representatives reserve the right to deny entry to any person to a BMHEN event, and to request a person to leave an event due to misconduct;
4.2 Although efforts are made to ensure BMHEN events are suitable for the advertised audience, BMHEN representatives are not responsible for the content or quality of any material presented; and
4.3 The BMHEN reserves the right to amend the Code at any time, and will notify its supporters by email when amendments are made.
